Kennel Club Good Citizens Scheme
The Isle of Wight Dog Training Society is committed to improving the profile of dogs in our society. Our aim is to educate owners about the reponsibilities of dog ownership whilst simultaneously teaching them modern methods of dog training. The Society is Kennel Club registered and embraces the ethos of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme. Training sessions at all venues prepare owners and dogs for the awards within the scheme. There are four levels of competence to be acheived beginning with Puppy Foundation (for dogs up to 1 year old) and the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards which are open to all dogs of all ages and of any breed or mix. Dogs do not need to be Kennel Club registered to take part. The Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are awarded after successful practical and verbal examination. To this end, eleven members of the society have attended a Bronze assessors course held for us at Downside Middle School by the Kennel Club. All those that attended passed the stringent test and are now qualified to judge canine candidates and their human companions for the Good Citizen Bronze award. This will provide frequent oppurtunities for testing at Bronze level at all venues. Later in the year the Kennel Club have agreed to run a similar course for assessors to become qualified to judge at Silver and Bronze level. Watch this space!
